The BMW i1 concept is a proposal of a three-wheeler addition to the BMW i-series. The author is designer Amadou Ndiaye.
Combining the agility of a motorbike with the safety of a car, the i1 Concept aims at virtually completing theBMW “i” range with a compact single-seater commuter, in a trend already followed by Audi and VW with theirUrban Concept and NILS Concept.
The three-wheeler concept features two front wheels that lean when cornering thanks to a hydraulic system combined with an onboard computer which adjusts the tilt of the wheels depending on the vehicle speed.
The i1 has a one-seat layout and is based on a carbon chassis and a design language similar to that of the BMW i3 and i8. The electric powertrain features three in-wheel motors.
