The design sketches and information on the Pixel Concept, the compact four-seater city car presented by Tata Motors at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show.
At the last 2011 Geneva Motor Show Tata Motors has unveiled the Pixel Concept, a design study of a modern urban car targeted to the European market, with a length of just over three meters and a four passengers capacity.
The exterior design is modern and well-balanced, with several reminiscences of the 2004 Pininfarina Nido Concept, including the overall proportions with short overhangs and the design and position of the headlights and tail lights.
Among the distinctive elements are the scissor-doors, which feature large glass areas and an interchangeable “island”, the panoramic roof and the original side view cameras that visually extend the upper contour of the headlights.
The “Pixel” name is evoked in the front and rear grille “tessellated” openings – and in the graphics used for the seats and the door panels.
The interior features a human-machine interface (HMI) that allows the integration of the user’s smartphone or tablet with the infotainment system.
A technical highlight is the “Zero Turn” toroidal traction-drive Infinitely Variable Transmission (IVT), that allows to achieve a turning circle radius of just 2.6 meters by rotating the outer rear wheel forwards and the inner rear wheel backwards during low-speed maneuvers.
The Pixel Concept is based on the Nano, and features an eco-efficient 1.2 liter diesel unit located at the rear that allows for a fuel consumption of 3.4 l/100km and CO2 emissions of 89g/km.
